[SOLVED] - DTS HD Master audio rips as 2 channel

Post by Jailer »

Since updating to the latest release 1.10.1 all my Blu Ray rips containing DTS HD MA show as 2 channel audio in the metadata. This is causing playback issues with my media server and the audio is defaulting to the DTS core track.

Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Can you be more specific? Which Blu-Rays, versions, etc? How are you seeing "DTS HD MA show as 2 channel audio in the metadata", using playback software, AV receiver, a file checker like MediaInfo? I've not experienced this with 1.10.1, and I test everything I rip with MPC-HC first before it goes on my server then, when it's time to watch, also check what the AV receiver says; NPF.

The DTS MA track is showing up as "unkown" with the core track showing as 2 channel. The file properties also show as 2 channel audio. For example I'll use A Hologram For The King ripped from my blu ray disk.

Image

If I load the encoded file back into Handbrake it shows the audio as DTS-HD MA 5.1 channels.

Handbrake was used to encode, the media info is listed below. Not sure if this is a handbrake issue or a makemkv issue. The only thing that has changed was I updated to the latest version of makemkv, my settings in Handbrake are untouched from previous encodes. Handbrake is set to DTS HD passthrough and has worked previously without issue.

What does the original BD-to-MKV rip look like in MediaInfo? Your first and third images only show the compressed file information (.m4v).

Your second one from Handbrake seems to indicate the wanted audio track is there so the fault would seem to fall on Handbrake and not MakeMKV but it would be helpful to know what the original MKV contained before any more conclusive answer can be given.

Figured out my problem. Turns out it's a bug in the current version of Handbrake. Everything that I've encoded since my new computer build and use of the latest stable version of Hanbrake shows 2 channel audio when using DTS-HD passthrough. Turns out it's not a problem with makemkv at all. Sorry for the confusion.
