Is there any way to change the format of the filename

Post by vancouverjack »

I'd like to add the 'comment' to the filename to capture episode information (some TV show blurays I have include things like EPL_403 for season 4 episode 3). I'd really like to have that as part of the filename instead of t00 t01 etc...

Yes. If you're using Windows, and once the .mkv file has been created, place your mouse over the file you want to rename, right click, select "rename", then name the file whatever you wish. Pretty common thing to do.

Preferences->General, make sure "Expert mode" is checked.

Now you can change the file name before ripping.

I am a new user and fan of the MakMKV tool.
I enabled the expert mode and was shown a new window in the screen,
However, it still uses the old name title00, etc

So is there a way to get the software to use the disk name and then have the title00 appended?

If, under Preferences->Video, you have "SemiAuto" or "Auto" enabled for the destination, AND MakeMKV finds a usable disk title, it will attempt to create the title name and file name using that information.

However...

If it doesn't find a usable disk title, after you open the disk, you can fill in the disk name you want in the "Properties" box, if you don't have a title selected... and MakeMKV will use that name to fill in the names/file names of all the tracks on the disk.

Automatically generated names have some "features" to them, though. Spaces become "_" in the file name, and you also get the _tNN added at the end. But, you CAN change the name prior to ripping. I usually take advantage of copy/paste to do this.

I suggest playing around with the settings - I ended up with "SemiAuto", and destination of just "Z:", and MakeMKV defaults to using the disk name as the directory, and also for the beginning of the file names. But I also end up editing it a lot, because most things I rip have episode numbers to deal with.

Thank you for the feedback.

I was able to accomplish the name changes by using the semi-auto selection, I have changed the destination directory
and then by copying the disc lable name and pasting it into each of the episode tracks I was converting.
