Converting MKV to DVD ISO

I know this question has been asked many times, but I have been reading on various forums for an answer but didn't find one

I have converted many DVDs (mostly standard single-layer DVD-Rs) to MKV and now want to burn a DVD-R of some of these MKV images. Since the DVD(-R)s have been converted to MKV as-is, there should be no format issues - except for the fact that the menus will be gone, obviously. Unfortunately, all solutions I've tried re-code either the video or audio - which of course will lead to a loss in quality. Is there a freeware that can do it without transcoding?

Any help would be very appreciated

You need DVD authoring software that accepts MKV as input, of course. But, if your MKV does not have MPEG2 video, you're not going to get away without recoding it.

Plus, if the MKV is bigger than about 4.2GB, you're not going to get it into a single-layer compatible ISO.

Many thanks for your help. I've just done a google search on this and tried a few options - but again: all those would start to transcode the video - but there is no need to do so

Does anybody know a software that splits the MKV file directly to VOB files?

If you want to start with VOBs, there are other tools out there that will rip the DVD to an ISO file, with decrypted VOB files and the whole directory structure, including menus.

But the tool mentioned above says it will pass the video through unchanged, IF:

MPEG files will automatically be passed through if they are:

DVD compliant
> Video: 720x576 (PAL) or 720x480 (NTSC)
> Audio: MP2 or AC3, 48000Hz
The same format is chosen in DVD settings dialog

Anything else, and things get decoded/encoded.

VOB and MKV are different "envelops", as it were, for holding multimedia tracks. MakeMKV is converting from VOB to MKV, not putting the VOB inside an MKV container.
