Feature request.

Post by marcusj0015 »

That is how MakeMKV doesn't allow tagging using MKVs global tags, and embedding images for the backdrop & coverart. will you please add support for this?

Here's a link to the creator of MKVs page, and a link to the specs/DTD

spec page: http://matroska.org/technical/specs/tag ... video.html

DTD link: http://matroska.org/files/tags/matroskatags.dtd

I second this request. I have used MetaX (http://www.danhinsley.com/) to add tags and images to my MKV's. This little tool downloads all the info from the net and adds it very professionally to your files. Actors and producers, cast etc. Its quick and quite painless. Itunes and other media players can use this information and display the pictures as thumb nails. (Too bad Windows file explorer wont display it in details view and let you sort by actor for example. Another long standing issue....)

Anyhow, I noticed that MakeMkv is dropping these 'global tags' out. Would think it would be very simple for MakeMKV to show these and keep them in the file? Would save us having to add them back in with MetaX.

Is this the same Meta-X that spawned the Meta-Z project, because Meta-X wasn't being updated?

Since 2013 when this topic was originally posted, there is a manual tagging function available in MakeMKV's advanced ("expert") mode. It's in the same pull-down used for editing the name and file name for titles, and can be used on a disk-wide basis.

I wasn't aware of the longer history with the free Mac based MetaX. The one I use on Windows is a try before you buy, but since it was only $10, I just brought it. But by looking at pictures of the old MetaX, MetaZ (Mac only) it actually looks to be the same project or code.

Don't know if the guy selling the Windows version at (http://www.danhinsley.com/) should actually be doing what he is doing but that is another debate. The important points here are that it runs on Windows, updates MKV files, and in it self works properly and is up to date. it does actually connect to the internet and find all the useful data to add to MKV files.

Its saves the results as a global tag in the files. I noticed that MKV Tool Nix appears to respect these tags so I guess they must be part of the global MKV standard. Would be great to have Make MKV respect them too.
