Star Wars Complete Saga Blu-ray crashing MakeMKV

#1 Post by mov1en1ght » Fri May 13, 2016 9:26 pm

Hey all, I'm new here, but have been using the software for probably 3-4 years now. I guess the reason I never joined the forum is that the software to date has always worked SO perfectly, it never crossed my mind to join the forum. We own around 400 DVDs and Blu-rays, all of which have been ripped to store on my NAS for streaming to our media players in the various rooms of our house. I am currently running the 1.9.10 version of the software.

That brings me to my current situation. I recently purchased Star Wars The Complete Saga on Blu-ray. They had a deal where it was only $40 or something like that and I couldn't pass it up. Upon opening it, I followed my normal routine, popped Episode I into my Blu-ray drive in my computer, a LiteOn IHBS212 running the latest firmware. The scan ran and I saw all those angles. Searched the forum here and found several useful threads on which angle to pick, which subtitle track to pick for the forced alien dialogue, and proceeded to Make the MKV.... well, the software made it a portion of the way into the process and locked up, eventually posting the following message:

005037:0204 Copy complete. 0 titles saved, 1 failed.

The log file is over 6MB, not sure if y'all want me to post this or just portions of it. Please advise.

I've been through this site and it doesn't seem like most folks are having issues with the rip, so I'm not sure what is going on here. I rarely every watch the actual Blu-ray disc, so it is very important to me to get these files in MKV on my NAS to stream in the house. Out of the six movie discs in the set, I was only able to rip one of them successfully (Attack Of The Clones).

Can anybody help?

Thanks in Advance,

-Louie

I forgot to mention that the movies all play perfectly fine on the computer using Media Player Classic and the K-Lite codec pack.

At the very least, the parts of the log that show error would be necessary.

But, I'd go with sending the log and other requested files listed in the FAQ link in my signature to support@makemkv.com, so that Mike can have a look at them. You should be able to zip them up small enough for most mail systems to handle.

Ok, I had emailed the log file to the support make mkv email address already and will obviously wait to hear back. In the mean time, here is the end of the huge file on my latest run attempt. I tried to attach a screen shot, but couldn't upload a JPEG and need to get my DropBox set back up. -Thanks-

Here is the beginning of the job and it looks like it has issues almost right from the beginning. There are 1000's of lines of "The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00300.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset XXXXXXXXX, attempting to work around". Metapad is telling me 57313 lines to be exact.

That collection of errors suggests a dirty or scratched disk. The drive can't read parts of it, and is sending MakeMKV a best-guess at the contents of the sectors. They aren't particularly GOOD guesses, which is why MakeMKV says they're corrupt.

Just because disks are new doesn't mean they're clean.

Thanks for the reply Woodstock. I just inspected the discs and they appear to be perfectly fine, however, I did notice that these discs are VERY dark. Doesn't that seem odd? I have around 175 blu-rays and around 250 DVD's and have never seen a disc look like this before... They're typically shiny metal...

The color depends upon the base media, and I think the number of layers can also affect how light or dark they are.

So, this one is solved...

I decided to borrow a friend's copy of this same pack to try out... first off noticing that the box and the disc looked different from his set (Amazon) to mine (eBay)...

Plopped his disc into my computer and MakeMKV made it through the disc perfectly...

Went online to read about fake Blu-rays purchased off eBay since the "dark disc" I mentioned previously was still bothering me... (most suggestions are that discs with dark discs are probably write-able, not authentic)...

I followed a couple of suggestions to see if the disc is fake and MakeMKV helped me out there too. Check out the following two images and see if anything sticks out...

Image

Image

The eBay disc is a single layer BD-R whereas the Amazon disc set is a dual layer BD-ROM.

You gotta love eBay... guess I'm off to file negative feedback and get my money back...
