My drive won't show up anymore

Post by bertrand »

Hey!

Happy to see MakeMKV is still going strong! :D Haven't tried ripping BR is years and now I'm back at it. Unfortunately, my BR drive won't show up on OS 10.11.4.

Do I need to install drivers or something I forgot? It says LG on the drive door (model number OWCMRF8UEBDW14).

The drive doesn't show up in "About this Mac" nor in MakeMKV.

Thanks!

Well, the drive has to be acknowledged by the operating system before MakeMKV can see it... :)

I would try plugging the drive into a different port; it is possible the one it's plugged into may be the problem.

Thanks for the reply!

I totally agree with you about the system that has to recognize the drive first! ;)

Problem is I only have one FW800 port on my PC. :/

Any other ideas?

16X OWC Mercury Pro Blu-ray+DVD/CD Burner USB 3.0 & FireWire 800/400 Solution.
Have you tried plugging it in to a USB port? Even if you don't get full speed, you can verify that the drive itself is working.

The OWC interface is a multi-port interface to the drive, and it is possible that the firewire is the broken bit. It is even possible that the FW port on the computer is disabled, or the driver is screwed up.

Bullseye! That was it. A USB2 cable worked. I'll have to try with a different FW800 cable maybe it'll work.

Thanks! :)
