Unable to open MakeMKV. Error Message: "version is old"

Post by Oh-Brother »

I have version 1.9.9.

Until today, I was able to open the program with no problem. I now am getting a message when I open it saying:

"This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com/ or enter registration key to continue using the current version"

I currently have the newest version, so I'm not sure how to continue using the program.

The beta key for 1.9.9 expired at the end of March.

The latest beta key will always be here: http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053

You will have to set your system date back to around 3/25/2016 to let MakeMKV start, then you can enter the new key via the Help->Register menu item.

That's a truly heinous "Why People Mock Windows Users" type of solution. It's 12 days into April. Why not just update the downloadable installer, rather than providing a download with an invalid key?

That is a question for Mike. From messages he sent back in March, he was planning on having a new version (with a new key) before the old key expired, but the new feature for it (figuring out which titles are "real" on disks with hundreds of fake titles) is probably taking longer to do than he anticipated.

PAID users do not have this inconvenience; It is only those taking advantage of the "Free while in Beta" that know about beta key expiration.

I only know the beta key has expired when people pop up here and ask.

What does it cost to get a registered version, and how does one go about doing this? I found nothing on the website about it. Setting back my clockis problematic for me.

You should only need to set your clock back occasionally, but...

You are right that there is very little on the main website here about purchasing a lifetime key. I have no idea if that's by design or not, but it has been pointed out to Mike by several of us over the years. And it comes up on the forum every month or so.

In MakeMKV itself, there is a "Purchase" option in the Help menu, that takes you to /buy/ , which explains the process. The actual cost depends upon where you live, due to currency fees, taxes, and such, and the processing is through a company named Avangate.
