New Medium Error with v1.9.9

#1 Post by TrashCompactor » Thu Apr 07, 2016 4:48 pm

I get the following error message with all Blu-ray discs since MakeMKV v1.9.9. Previously i downgraded back to v1.9.8 but now the beta key doesn't work and forced me to upgrade to v1.9.9 to get the beta registration to work. I'm would have bought a registration key but I'm worried this error message is for my hardware Blu-ray drive. i just want to make sure makemkv will work again. my hardware hasn't changed in a long time but i noticed this issue as soon as makemkv opens with the new version. please help

MakeMKV v1.9.9 win(x64-release) started

To get the beta key to work with v1.9.8, you will have to set your computer date back to when the key built into 1.9.8 was valid, put the new key in, and then it should work.

A date in mid-January 2016 should work.

But I doubt it will affect the error you're getting...

Thanks for the date idea. i tried that but im still getting the same error. Does anyone know if this is a hardware issue? This error didnt pop up in any of the search results on this forum. Is this a previously unseen error?

The error itself is the drive saying it can't read part of the disk. But you said:
I get the following error message with all Blu-ray discs since MakeMKV v1.9.9.
Which could mean an issue with the drive itself, as well. For example, if it can't refocus to handle a layer change, it will have an issue on all disks bigger than 25GB, when it switches to the second layer. That is much rarer than a dirty disk, but would explain an "all disk" problem.

Are you trying to do backups on the BDs, or open->save to MKV?

I have been getting the same error ever since the last update. (1.9.9) Not on all discs, but quite a few.

This error pops up when i first open Make MKV, then if i click on the Blu-ray icon it says the same error multiple times. the errors below are from opening the software until it starts to scan the disc.

MakeMKV v1.9.9 win(x64-release) started
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:ID CRC OR ECC ERROR' occurred while reading 'HD-DVD-ROM HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03' at offset '24416155648'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:ID CRC OR ECC ERROR' occurred while reading 'HD-DVD-ROM HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03' at offset '24416155648'
Using direct disc access mode
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:ID CRC OR ECC ERROR' occurred while reading 'HD-DVD-ROM HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03' at offset '24416155648'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:ID CRC OR ECC ERROR' occurred while reading 'HD-DVD-ROM HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03' at offset '24416155648'

My original post said this issue started after v1.9.9 but i checked with the previous two versions and still get the same error.
I also noticed i get this error when i try to copy a Blu-ray ( same offset)

Error 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '24416155648'

Errors like that during the scan phase are problems with the directory area of the disk, near the hub. I've seen this with disks that are starting to come apart, or have tiny cracks in the hub. They look fine, but the leakage of air into the layers makes them unreadable.
