Hi,

I am new to MakeMKV and am currently trialing the software.

My ultimate goal is to create a reasonably high quality MP4 (which may be 5GB-ish) from a Blu Ray disc. I understand the best way to do this is to first create a MKV (which may be as large as 30GB-ish) via this software and then to use something like Handbrake to convert the MKV to MP4.

However, I am problem with the first step. I have taken a reasonably straight forward Blu Ray disc and get the following error. I've tried to attach a screenshot of the MakeMKV screen but get "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Could you kindly recommend what I should do?

When I see this error string, my first thought is that the drive is going off line for some reason. It CAN come from a bad disk, or at least a dirty one. However, the rip continued a bit further after that the first error (the drive came back on line), some more reading occurred, then it went off line again. That repeated until the retry limit was reached.

Is the drive doing the ripping an external drive? If it is, is it powered by the USB bus, or does it have its own power supply?

The drive I am using is an external drive. It is a Samsung and got good reviews on Amazon. This is the first time I am trying to rip Blu Ray DVDs. I have tried four DVDs and have been successful with 2 of the 4.

A quick google search for the drive shows that others have had issues with the SE-506CB on Macs if it wasn't plugged into a powered USB port. The first hit, in fact, said that because the supplied cord was so short, the drive was plugged into a hub, and failed burning disks, but worked fine after being plugged into the ports on the back of the iMac.

This isn't a new problem. USB power (especially 2.0) is limited on port, and using hubs limits it even more, unless the hub has its own power supply. Generally speaking, you want the drive plugged in as close to the power source as possible, which is the computer itself, and some older drives really need to be plugged into TWO USB ports for full speed operation.

The drives will generally work just fine at low speeds like playing back movies, but MakeMKV has no speed limiter right now...

Thanks so much for your reply. It is great to know about the USB drive. However, I think in this case that it is because of the DVDs themselves? I've now been successful in burning four Blu Ray DVDs and not successful in two. I'll try more!
