Rambo 2 & Rambo 3 from the trilogy box set both appear to convert but when they get near the end they get lots of errors and the file just disappears

And without logs to show what errors occurred, we would have to start offering wild guesses. Electromagnetic interference from underground nuclear testing on the far side of the moon pops to mind, but that's just how my mind works at times...

Your drive is having a lot of problems with this disk. The directory structure contains unreadable sections, as does the content area.

If disk 1 worked fine and it's the other two with problems, there is likely common damage between the other two disks.

There is no work-around for disks that can't be read, other than figuring out how to make them readable. Make sure you don't have cracks, scratches, or dirt on the disks, including fingerprints.

This is a brand new box set I just got. The first ripped ok but both 2 & 3 gave the same errors and in the end the file it made just disappeared. Any idea how to correct it an rip correctly?

If MakeMKV detects an error during the rip, it removes the output file, so the "fix" is getting the disk to read without errors.

I'd recommend getting the set replaced.

Has anyone ever got this to work? I have tried 3 different Rambo 2 discs on 5 different computers and get nothing but read errors. This movie is truly copy proof.

Your assessment is not quite right. If the set was mastered or pressed with errors, then it will not rip as was described earlier. You'll need to find a different set, probably a batch mastered/pressed at another location or on another date, one with no errors. It stinks and is rare but happens and I'm guessing that there is an error-free set or disc out there. Having said that, the issue isn't one of encryption since the errors occur in the rip itself and not in de-encryption, technically making the set not "truly copy proof".

Well if anyone can find one I will buy it off them. I have tried rentals and retail copies with no luck over the past 2 years.

If this is some issue with the original master for the collection you're trying to rip from, then I'd try a different edition. Try a UK one, for example, 25 bucks for 1-4 from zavvi.
