Errors on HDDVD Rips

Post by veliferum » Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:04 pm

Hello,
I think your program is very promising despite the bugs, keep up the good work !

Tried to convert two full HD-DVD rips (MakeMKV 1.2).
Both give errors, files are already decrypted with AnyDVDHD.
First One is Van Helsing second one Total Recall.

Sorry, we have limited support of HDDVD. We don't support VC-1 without TFCNTR on HDDVD and this would not change in the nearest future.

Hi Mike,

I have about 200 HDDVDs I want to rip, it seems a large number of them give the TFCNTR error. Is better HDDVD support still planned for later? I know its a dead format but that does make ripping discs even more important for those of us with HDDVDs.

I can't give you any answer unfortunately - the fate of HD-DVD suport is not yet decided. :(

HD-DVD support has my STRONG vote. I have about 50 discs to migrate to my media server as well and had hoped makeMKV was my answer.

I'd also love HD DVD support.

I've ripped a few HD DVDs with eac3to, bdsup2sub and mkvmerge, but it's a major pain in the ass, and there are a lot of manual steps to be made. So if a tool like MakeMKV could make it as simple to rip HD DVDs as it makes BD-ripping, it would be fantastic.

Apparently ClownBD should actually be a one-click HD DVD (and BD of course)-ripper, which uses eac3to, bdsup2sub and mkvmerge (or is it tsMuxer?) in the background, but I've not been able to get it to work properly.

I'd like to throw another vote into the mix for HD-DVD. As a previous commenter said, HD-DVD is a dead format, but that makes it more important to us that still have HD-DVDs to get onto a hard drive, especially since the BD equivalent typically has no improvements over the HD-DVD versions. With the WB red2blu program, we can get the BD version for next to nothing, but Universal, Paramount, and others have not followed suit, and this late in the game, I don't see it happening.

Of course, I'm trying to avoid the windows side of ripping, and would like a simple MKV file to show at the end of the process.

Would renting my HD-DVD collection on BD for ripping be wrong? 90%+ of the time, the studios just used the HD-DVD raw content to make the BD...just sayin...

It is very likely that hd-dvd support will get fixed soon. Still it's not a firm promise.

I may be the last person to discover this but:

http://hddvdboxsets.com/hddvd1-38754801 ... D_DVD.html

Offers (via "Amazon sellers") legitimate, commercial HD-DVDs starting at a penny each
