MakeMKV only works with AnyDVD?

Hi guys,

I've been trying to use MakeMKV on my Macbook (both on Snow Leopard and Windows 7) but all I get are error messages when I use the "open" option.. so I just found out that it only works (for me) when I have AnyDVD loaded.. is this normal? I don't think so, because it even gives me a warning message that it should be able to decrypt on it's own without AnyDVD.. weird.. I tried to "open" a couple titles I just received from Amazon.com, here are the logs:

My system is a new MacBook Pro unibody, using a OptiArc BD-S55004 on a external USB enclosure.
Windows 7 64-bit was used, as well as Mac OS Snow Leopard.

Just tried another title.. this time on Windows, got pretty much the same thing Unfortunately these are the only three titles I have, they are all concerts, just got them from Amazon.com. LOG for this last one:

No, MakeMKV should be able to open any disc without any 3rd party software. Please do the following:
- upgrate to the latest 1.5.3 version
- on the first screen MakeMKV shows the "AACS version" for the disc, what is the version used on all 3 discs?

Thanks for such good support. I updated to latest 1.5.3 and still get the same error, the AACS version displayed on the main screen is "AACS v7". Is there anything else I can do?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I just found out that I'm can't even play these disks without AnyDVD... so weird, my BD-ROM is useless without AnyDVD, I tried with PowerDVD v10 Ultra, Nero 9 Reloaded, WinDVD BD, ArcSoft Theather... jesus, all of them tell me my drive is not able to play these disks (doesn't say anything region related).

Any idea?

Sounds like you're trying to play .ISOs created by AnyDVD which are lacking the required key(s) , unlike those created by using MakeMKV in combination with IMGBurn...

Hi guys,

No it's not an .ISO, I'm trying to play three original disks I got from Amazon.com, they are:

- Chris Botti at Boston
- Tony Bennett
- Diana Krall live in Rio

I purchased the drive on eBay from a seller in Hong Kong, could that be the issue? Some sort of drive restriction? I'm clueless, the drive seems to be working fine, since when I have AnyDVD loaded I can play all of them in all programs and I can open them fine in MakeMKV..

I'm waiting for my PS3 to arrive this week, and I'll test these damn disks to see if they are somehow defective or what..
All hits, tips, suggestions are appreciated..

but where you bough it has nothing to do with regions for blue-ray atleast.

Those three are the only blu-rays I have.. I bought them all at once, and yes, the softwares are all very updated. I really don't think it's a software problem, since I tried FOUR of them:

- ArcSoft Theather
- Nero 9 Reloaded
- WinDVD BD Edition
- PowerDVD 10 Ultra

There is a new firmware for my drive, but the updater doesn't let me update because I do not have a Sony laptop.. damn stupid program! I'm running out of options...

I wonder if either "mike admin" or one of the BluRay ripping knowledgable folks (such as "kendoo", in the Doom9 "Decrypting" sub-forum) at the Doom9 Forum can tell you whether this is indicative of a drive whose "certificate has been revoked" - and, if so what, if anything can be done to resurrect it?

Also - Instead of selecting "Open", are you able to select the "Backup" icon - and get it to run successfully?

(I'm not near a machine with MakeMKV on it right now)

No my friend, BACKUP gives the same error. I just googled and found 5 users having the same exact issue with this Sony Optiarc BC-5500S4 drive not being able to play disks (most of them found that it works with AnyDVD loaded). I'm sending all of them a private message to see if they got it fixed or found out something about it.

No I do not have any blu-ray that plays, since I just bought it and acquired my first three titles and NONE of them play (except when I use AnyDVDHD, heh).
