3D Bluray backup only copies 2D files

#1 Post by Blafasel0815 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 1:10 pm

Hi,

if I let MakeMKV make an MKV (duh..) there is that 3D-setting you need to select to add the second videostream. So far so good and I would think that if I use the "BACKUP" function everything will be copied as it is on the disc... but no. The videofiles on the HDD only have the 2D image:

The MKV:

Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : Stereo High@L4.1 / High@L4.1
MultiView_Count : 2

The Backup:

Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes

Why is MakeMKV skipping the second videostream? How can I make a PROPER backup?

If you use "backup", you're getting the raw M2TS files, which should have the MVC video track. You will have to make sure you pick the correct play list to get it, though.

If you are ripping to MKV files, you need to go in to the main title's track list (click on the little triangle next to the title in the left window), and make sure the MVC track is checked for inclusion - the default behavior is to NOT select MVC. Making it an MKV file means that all parts of the video are in one file, not subject to play lists.

For a lot of Blu Rays the 3D components aren't in the m2ts file, I think they're in something called a sif file or something.

In any case, the Left and Right frames are kept in separate files, if you're just looking at the m2ts files you're missing the point.

Try looking at the playlists themselves, if you're not already.

Hm, I thought the two viewpoints are in the same container/file while the core holds one image and the other stream holds just the change in the image?

How can I read the playlist-files properly? Noteped++ doesn't help much. :)

Looks like I need to look deeper in that topic!

This is really strange :P

Just another question regarding burning: Am I good to go by burning the folders I get from MakeMKV's backup feature on a BD50? Or do I need something else, too? I assume UDF will do? What about the disc-name? Will that be checked by the player?

Hm, there're issues with movies I backed up and burned on BD50, eg. it takes ages to load the menu and it only loads the menugraphics but not the background-video. And while the movie plays fine, the PS3 not displaying it in 3D. Looks like the "backup"-function isn't made for actually backing up the disc to burn it.
