Unable to complete backup

#1 Post by bunk3m » Sat Oct 31, 2015 1:33 pm

Hello.

I use MakeMKV occasionally. The last two discs I tried to backup failed.

I tried the most recent attempts and enabled logging. I thought initially that a fingerprint on the disc had been the issue, so I cleaned the disc. The failure didn't happen at the same point.

This is similar to the last time I tried to backup a disc.

Please find log files attached.

I appreciate any guidance on how to fix the situation so I can make a backup of this disc.

Sorry forgot to let you know that I'm using

v1.9.7 for Mac.

Bluray - Samsung SE-506bb tsbd

And one more thing. I downloaded and tried DVDFab the first time I had this problem. It was able to rip the disc successfully.

What do you have set as the retry count on MakeMKV (Preferences->IO)?

The read errors occur at different spots in your two logs, so it is likely an error that CAN be read, but it takes more tries than MakeMKV is currently allowing.

Thanks Woodstock.

I have set 5 retrys. (screenshot of I/O settings below). I think these are default.

What would you suggest I try? 10, 20 or more?

I personally only go beyond 5 for special circumstances, but I've gone as high as 25 when I had an issue with a disk that I'd already had replaced twice. The main result is that you won't know about a bad spot for a long time, as it retries.
