Mad men Final Season Part 2

Post by chadduerksen »

Ran into an interesting error on Mad Men The Final Season part 2. Disc 1 has 4 episodes on it, but MakeMKV can only rip 2 of the 4. The other 2 files generate multiple errors and attempts at rips fail. Haven't tried disc 2 yet. And yeah, it's a Lionsgate disc.

Debug logs could help... "Something broken" is hard to determine a fix for....

Yes, I know. Couldn't get to making one until now.

002003:0000 Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00277.m2ts' at offset '6330052608'
Several similar reports from the drive of not being able to read parts of the disk. MakeMKV can't do much if the hardware says "no".

There has been some suggestion (which I have not seen anything to support) that 1.9.7 is getting hardware errors that older versions do not get; if you have a previous install file (the archives aren't back online yet after the access problem last month), you might want to give it a try. The times v1.9.7 reported SCSI errors on disks here, cleaning them "fixed" things enough to do a rip.

It does the same thing with v1.9.6. However, I've tried 3 different rippers and none of them can read the disc. Is it possible the disc is defective?

Assuming the drive itself can read other disks, then yes, the disk is probably defective. If it's new, exchange it.

Hopefully, it's not a manufacturing defect that extends to more than a disk or two, but there HAVE been instances where a lot of disks from the same manufacturing lot are bad. Surprisingly rare, but it DOES happen from time to time.
