Language bug

Post by toyuniverses »

My preferred language is English. If there is no English track, MakeMKV selects no audio track at all. This is a bug. It means no music, no sound effects, etc. MakeMKV should always copy at least one audio track.

Not so much a bug, as a bad default selection rule. Otherwise, I agree with you. I removed the preferred language from my configuration because it does not work well.

The default selection rule when, a preferred language is set, tosses out non-preferred languages. It CAN be set up to give PRIORITY to the preferred language, while selecting others as well. Of course, it you do not want the other languages, then that is bad, too.

The default selection rule is visible (and changeable) in the Advanced tab when you have "Expert mode" turned on in the General settings. It also affects track selection for things like core audio tracks when HD is available, etc. More information on that is available in the "Advanced MakeMKV usage" section of the board.

Programs like Handbrake allow you to set a "preferred" language, and a list of other "acceptable" languages. This works better in most case, in my opinion. But it's Mike's opinion that counts. ;)
