New to debugging MKV so any ideas / direction welcome...

Bluray decoding is not "infinitely available" on the unregistered version. It has been so long since I used MakeMKV without a permenant key that I'm fuzzy on how to restart the 30 day clock... You MAY have to uninstall, then re-install v1.9.5.

Start MakeMKV. Click on Help, then Register. Paste the key in.

This MAY reset the shareware timer; I don't know.

I've always assumed that message always appeared but I usually don't rip Bluray. I had literally just installed the new version so I expected the clock reset, perhaps not. I'll try your suggestion and if I can get this working reliably for Bluray, I'll likely register.

As an aside (and I can open a different post) do I need to pull done and setup a database for codes and if yes, as there a good blog post or source you'd recommend to follow?

MakeMKV doesn't rely on a database of codes - that's libaacs, if I remember correctly, which MakeMKV can act as a replacement for.

MakeMKV has its own AACS key, which sometimes gets locked out by manufacturers, so it is replaced periodically.

Still having strangeness when trying to rip a bluray (same title as above)...

If I follow the typical straightforward steps: select drive source, click arrow to write to file... I get:

Many files written to my directory (desktop): Copy complete. 10 titles saved, 1 failed.
And of course a failure where it counts... Error text below...

Is the process for bluray different? From all I've read online, it should be same.

It's straight-forward until hardware gets in the way:

The drive says it can't read part of the file. Simple things are cleaning the disk. If that doesn't help and it's a new disk, exchanging for a replacement is an option.

Thanks... as to why it creates a separate file for every title? A non bluray it produces a single mkv file... Yea, I know i can select a single title or just toss the ones I don't need, but i'm more curious why the different behavior...

Not sure I understand the question... MakeMKV will make a file for each title on the disk in "write MKV" mode. Not all disks separate episodes into single titles, though.

For example, the anime series Bleach usually has three titles per disk - one with 6 episodes in it, and two short "extras". Some series that are released on both DVD and BD can use a different layout on each... 4-7 episodes in one file on the DVD, and 8 or 9 files with one episode each on the BD, in the same package.

What you get is dependent upon what was put on the disk by the author.
