Anything is possible. External drives, though, usually have issues when the speed gets too high, and they run out of power... then you get connection errors. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
If you have another drive available, attempt the rip with it. Every drive is ever so slightly different in laser alignment, and some can see good data where others see errors. I have 4 different BD drives available, and I have some disks that simply won't work in 3 of the 4. There are also 2 DVD drives, because some DVDs don't work with blue lasers.
