Audio & Visual Ripping Glitch On MKV

Post by LEFEUFOLLET »

I've noticed on a very small number of my .mkv rips that the video slightly jumps forward a couple of frames (or frames are missing, not sure which) and at the same time, there is a noticable high pitch audio tick noise. This has only occurred once on each mkv, so I presumed that the issue was some kind of individual disc error. I didn't think it was a blu-ray player issue as other discs have no problem.

However, I've just bought another blu-ray of one of the mkvs I had a problem with and the new .mkv I just made has the exact same glitch problem. Fwiw, I'm watching the .mkvs in Media Player Classic - Home Cinema.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

What happens if you view them on VLC instead?

Not all players support MKV files fully. If VLC exhibits the same behavior, then it's probably the MKV file, but it is best to eliminate the EASY possibilities first.

I never even thought to check VLC! Doh! I just played the .mkv I redid and it's fine in VLC. I'm kinda surprised there's an issue though in Media Player Classic - Home Cinema as I've watched hundreds of .mkvs through it with no problem. And I have many discs released by the same company released both before and after the problem disc and none of them have ever had any playback issues.

Just tested all of the problem .mkv files and one of them has the same issue in VLC. All of the others are fine in VLC. Any ideas?

When you rip the things does the log say anything about corrupt or invalid files?

Does MakeMKV have complete access to the internet?

Could it be a problem with your HDD or other hardware?

The log says nothing about corrupt or invalid files. MakeMKV has access to the internet. I doubt the issue is hardware related as most other discs are fine. I would presume that the issue is likely software related, but there's no obvious cause of the issue...
