Windows 10 Crashing 1.9.5

#1 Post by mr_natural » Sun Aug 02, 2015 2:02 am

After upgrading (?) to Windows 10, I downloaded and installed MakeMKV 1.9.5. I was able to open the program, but it crashed to the desktop almost immediately after it began accessing the DVD. I uninstalled MakeMKV, downloaded and successfully reinstalled 1.9.5 only to have it crash again. I downloaded a previous version of MakeMKV and the same thing happened. Shown below is the Application Error information from the Windows Event Viewer that seems to indicate a problem with the Windows ntdll.dll file.

Faulting application name: makemkvcon64.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x55b55755

Any opinions on what the problem might be and more importantly, what I can do to fix it?

I upgraded a clean Windows 7 Pro install to 10 over the weekend and installed MakeMKV 1.9.5

I'm not seeing the problem that you are, however. I've been encoding lots of DVDs over the weekend (wading into my Buffy boxset) and a single Bluray without problems (although DVD ripping speed seems to be far more likely to be 1.9-2.0 for some reason).

Are you running it as Administrator? That's the only wrinkle I've had to do.

I'm fairly certain I've been running as Admin, but I'll try again just to make sure. Thanks for the reply.

I have the same issue and same error message.

Running as Administrator did not help.

I'm curious, what Antivirus are you using?

Bitdefender Free Version. Running MakeMKV as Administrator seems to have fixed the problem.....for now. I just finished ripping four DVD's.

I'm using the full version of Bitdefender. I think this is related.

Before I installed Bitdefender I was able to run the program.

I'm running into the same problem but running it as an administrator did not fix it. I am running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 10162, Bitdefender Free Edition for antivirus.

Same issue here. Windows 10 / Makemkv 1.9.5 / Bitdefender free. I uninstalled Bitdefender and disabled Windows Defender, opened Makemkv as administrator and it loaded normally.
I didn't try to run without being administrator, just fyi.

Using Windows 10 x64 10240 and MakeMKV 1.9.5 here, no problems at all with DVDs or BDs. I don't use any antivirus software (and never have for the last 20 years) except the built-in Windows Defender thing. I do not have to start it in admin mode either.

So, judging by this thread, the solution is easy? Disable antivirus software and you're good (apparently).

I fixed the problem. :D Just add these files to the Bitdefender's exclusion list.

makemkv.exe
makemkvcon64.exe
makemkvcon.exe

It worked after adding mkaemkvcon64.exe so I added the others just to be safe.

This was exactly my issue as well.

hi, i'm using windows 7 and also experienced the crash when starting makemkv. I already excluded the 3 files from BitDefender as has been suggested here. I also ran makemkv.exe as admin. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks

Are you using the free edition? If so, how did you get to where you can add that.

same issue for me, as soon as i uninstalled Bitdefender Free Version, makemkv v1.9.5 x64 on a clean install of windows 10 pro fired right up.. no more crash.

so something with makemkv and Bitdefender dont play nice.
