MakeMKV Hangs while "Scanning CD-ROM devices"

I just downloaded and installed MakeMKV 1.9.4 for Mac OS X (I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3). I have an external blu ray drive connected via USB. When MakeMKV opens it's "Scanning CD-ROM devices" and all the buttons are greyed out. Unfortunately it never gets past this stage--I have let it run for over 40 minutes. Tried re-installing and re-booting but no dice.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I am having this same problem. Tried updating to 1.9.5 and problem persists.

Update: Tried unplugging the USB-bluray drive and I can now open makemkv properly.
