makemkv creating one long mkv from episodic dvd.

I've been trying to rip a dvd with 3 episodes on it using makemkv 1.9.4 on yosemite 10.10.3 but the result at the end is I'm getting just one large mkv file instead of the 3 episodes I was expecting.

You've encountered a disk authored with one file, but menu entries that point to "episodes" by taking you to specific chapters within the big file. Sometimes, there will be separate files that do the same thing, but not always.

With a DVD, you can use the "manual DVD" settings to break such files apart. This page explains the basics: http://www.makemkv.com/manualdvd/

Mike sent me these instructions for one of my Bleach DVDs that had a weirder-than-normal directory structure:
For your discs you need to enter following title strings (without quotes).

For disc 1 - "1:1-5;6-10;11-15;16-20;21-25;26-30;31-35 " .
For disc 2 - "1:1-5;6-10;11-15;16-20;21-25;26-30 " .

These split the main title into blocks of 5 chapters. You can rearrange the episode order if you need.
Title 1 was the main file with "everything". That varies with the disk, of course.

I encounter this all the time, but I use Handbrake to split the episodes during the post-rip processing. The manual DVD method ONLY works with DVDs, but the post-rip processing works for DVD or BD... ;)
