A LONLELY PLACE TO DIE
Re: A LONLELY PLACE TO DIE
Did the disks come up with the error in the same locations, or different ones?
This error typically happens when something is preventing the drive from reading parts of the disk. The electronics make decisions based upon what is read, and then get confused and report an error.
I did a quick search to see if there was any grand insight somewhere on potential fixes, and the usually response found was "dirty or scratched disk, clean is and possibly wax it".
SOMETIMES, increasing the number of retries (preferences, IO) can help get the disk read.

Hi,
I didn't record the previous failures, I'll try your suggestions.
Many thanks.

Re: A LONLELY PLACE TO DIE
Number of retries increased, hey presto....SUCCESS...Thanks!
Re: A LONLELY PLACE TO DIE
Upping the retry number increased the chance for success when opening a bluray to something like 25-33% of the time for me, which is loads better than 0%. I can just keep trying and it eventually succeeds, usually within 3-4 tries. Once the disc is opened it seems to rip just fine. Thanks!
