MakeMKV 1.9.5?

#1 Post by Tapioka » Fri Jun 26, 2015 6:42 pm

Hi,

I apologize in advance if this type of question ("omg, new version please!!") is not welcome on this forum, you may punish me and lock this then.

Is there any ETA on a new version of MakeMKV that supports AACS 55 (or beyond)? I have this Foxcatcher BD here that uses 55 and I made the mistake of simply feeding it to MakeMKV (which goes up to v54 in 1.9.4) without checking the version first. Now I keep getting that COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE error message on all my BDs. I know this probably can't be fixed until a new MakeMKV version arrives.

Please don't mistake this as a "pressure thread", I don't want to push Mike (if it takes till 2017 - so be it ;)), I'm simply asking for information - if there is any to share.

Thanks!

Hopefully, MakeMKV generated a file for you to send in... There should have been a link in the log saying "click here to report", and, in your data directory (Preferences->General->MakeMKV data directory) there should be a file with "MKB_v55" as part of its name.

Either click on the link or send the file to svq@makemkv.com so that Mike can deal with it.

Thanks for your reply!

There is a MKB_v55_FOXCATCHER.tgz file. I'll forward it to Mike then and cross my fingers ;).

I've just installed Version 1.9.5.

It starts, freezes immediatly and then it crashs after a few seconds...

I use win 8.1 pro. v.1.9.4 worked fine.

When you installed the new version, did you complete the removal of the old version BEFORE you clicked continue on the new version? Unfortunately, the installer will try to install the new version before the old is purged, if you don't pay attention to what is going on. You can end up with mixed versions, or files missing.

Try doing the install again, only make sure the uninstall completes first.

Hi Woodstock

Thanks for your answer.

The MakeMKV installer asked me to uninstall first, what I did.
After that I uninstalled 1.9.5 from Windows programs uninstall.
Nothing helped so far. :(

Please check the Event Viewer to see if there are any messages that match when it failed. Please post the text of any here, so that Mike can see them.

It's entirely possible that whatever was done to fix Win10 broke something for Win8.1... Seems to work fine on Win7, but each version has its quircks.

Hi Woodstock,

I have the same problems, but I'm on Win7 (x64) Home Premium.
I start 1.9.5 and it immediately freezes and crashes.

I can see that it recognizes itself as MakeMKV win(x64-release)-Version, shortly before it freezes. But it installs itself in (x86).

I tried several installs. Always with an clean uninstall before. Tried also different languages (german and english), compatibility, administrator.
It always crashes.

The Windows event monitor shows several Errors, saying makemkvcon64.exe (and MakeMKV.exe only once or twice) crashed.

My system Win 7 (x64) "Locked-up" half way through direct access decoding of ex Machina.

Just to add information: I uninstalled version 1.94 through the control panel as I always do and applied a fresh install of 1.95 and it "Locked-up" on the first disk I tried to decode. I removed 1.95 completely and reinstalled 1.94 and it decoded the movie just fine.

Thanks for the great software and continued effort to improve.

I'm in the same boat, running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Uninstall 1.9.4 for a clean installation of 1.9.5, launches and immediately pops up a "makemkvcon64.exe has stopped working" error message:

This is a MakeMKV incompatibility to a (yet unknown) some sort of antivirus/virus/process monitor software. Affrects only x64 windows. If you can think of any system software you have installed, please try disabling it and see if it helps. If you have none, check your system for viruses. If you find out what it is, please post here. Regardless, this will be fixed in the next version.

Another workaround is to force MakeMKV to run in 32-bit mode. Open command prompt and launch MakeMKV as follows:

Code: Select all

set APROXY_FORCE_32BIT=1
C:\Program Files(X86)\makemkv.exe
Change the program path according to your installation. Alternatively create a cmd file or set the environment variable in system preferences.

Hi Mike

Many thanks for your answer!

First of all in 32-bit mode v1.9.5 works! :)
The problem in 64-bit mode could be caused by the Bitdefender AVR.

I will update my system anyway now to win 10 and try again afterwards MakeMKV in 64-bit mode.

I am also running Bitdefender; MakeMKV 1.9.5 works normally when "on access scanning" is disabled.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm running AVG Free Edition as my antivirus software if that information helps. My started fine it just "froze" my computer half through decoding.
