Kingsman And Spongebob: Sponge out of Water ERRORS

#1 Post by railerswim » Sun Jun 14, 2015 4:53 pm

Issue:

Kingsman: the Secret Service and Spongebob: Sponge out of Water are refusing to rip. They open up just fine and display their playlists. Then when I go to rip it, it will actually rip a little (Kingsman goes for a minute, Spongebob for 5) and then MakeMKV freezes and becomes unresponsive from this constant error

Code: Select all

The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00500.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 43247616, attempting to work around
Of course the file/path is different but it occurs multiple times before it halts.

I have also backed up the discs. Encrypted backup worked fine until I tried to convert it, then unencrypted was zero success. Again both failed with the same errors on all methods.

For reference I did rip Interstellar successfully yesterday.

So I don't know if this is new copy protection or what but I assure you my drive and my PC work fine.

Question:

Is there a fix? Or a better work-around?

So I don't look stupid I realize, duh these are new releases and the bd+ encryption has yet to be cracked.

If it were the BD+, you would normally get a message about "no FUTs generated" (no fix-up tables), and a pointer to a file that can be sent to svq@makemkv.com for analysis.

In this case, something in the data was not as expected, so MakeMKV is trying to work around it. If it succeeds in the work-around, it continues; otherwise, it will have an error later on. If you have debug logging turned on (see the FAQ in my signature), more detail is available as to WHICH work-around(s) are tried.

I would suggest following the instructions in the FAQ to send the logs and files from the BD, so that Mike can have a look at them.

Note that sometimes, a dirty disk is all it takes to get that error; cleaning any fingerprints off before you run the logging pass is always a good idea.

This is a new feature if 1.9.3 - MakeMKV now always checks M2TS files against the hashes stored on the disc. The "official" explanation is that you have a broken drive - when it reads corrupted data it doesn't report the error but passes corrupted data to the program. This is, unfortunately, quite common.
The other possibility is a bug in MakeMKV.

If you get consistent result when making a backup and MKV file (hashcheck errors both during backup and MKV) then it is certainly a disc/drive issue.
