DVD with multiple episodes

Post by The_Zig »

as a newbie to makemkv, i'd appreciate any help with an issue i have when trying to copy a dvd with multiple episodes. i ensure that there is a check in all the file names, but when i convert to .mp4 i only see 1 file (the 1st)? any help would be appreciated.

MakeMKV doesn't convert to MP4, so we're not necessarily talking an MakeMKV issue here.

DVD and BD authors make a variety of different choices when creating their disks. Sometimes, they have one file that contains all episodes. Sometimes, there is one file per episode. Sometimes, there is one file that contains everything, and directory entries that point to parts of that file that make up individual episodes. The Mentalist is an example of the latter - MOST seasons have a big "everything" file, and 3 or 4 "one episode" files, but there is only one copy on the disk.

In the case of, say, The Mentalist Season 7, clicking on the save button without any manual changes will result in one really big file (4 or 5 episodes in it), 3 to 5 big files (individual episodes), and several small files (extras).

In the case of the anime Bleach, it's going to be one really big file, and maybe some small extras.

Which file do you load into your MP4 converter? Usually the big files, rather than the really big one, although some programs will let you select which chapters will be included in the output.

Beyond that explanation, you're going to have to check with the support people for your MP4 converter, to see why it only sees one title.
