(free beta) License and Timezones

#1 Post by sparktank » Sun May 31, 2015 1:04 am

I'm in Pacific Standard Timezone (PST, -0800).
For me, it's 6pm May 30th, 2015.

The license shows as expired.

I already know that I could probably just change the system clock or other time changing methods.
I also know that I can just wait out until whatever timezone the application is designed for.

And, yes, I'm aware this is free (while in beta).

But, shouldn't the license check adjust according to end-user's timezone?
Considering that the new license isn't always availble for a few days into the new month, that one extra (legitimate) day would be useful.

I don't think this has anything to do with timezones. It's a matter of days....60 to be exact.

I can confirm the expiration issue. I just downloaded MakeMKV 1.9.2 for my Mac to update an expired 1.9.1 version. When I do "About MakeMKV" I see the following message:

MakeMKV v1.9.2[darwin(x86-release)]
Latest available version: 1.9.2
Website URL: http://www.makemkv.com/
License type: Freeware
Evaluation: Ended
This version expires: Sat Jul 4 2015 [33 day(s)]

When I try to backup a disc, I get

"Evaluation period has expired. Please purchase an activation key if you've found this application useful. You may still use all free functionality without any restrictions."

When I go to

http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053

the registration code there is supposedly "[...] valid until end of May 2015." I enter the code and I get

"Thank you. Please restart the application for changes to take effect."

I restart MakeMKV and get

"Your temporary key has expired and was removed. Please restart the application."

followed by

"This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com/ or enter a registration key to continue using the current version."

at which point it exits.

Am I doing something wrong? Is MakeMKV out of beta?

Thanks.

Makes sense if that's the designated trial period selected (regardless of month given).

license renewed/updated.

"valid until end of July 2015"

Shows 60 days where June is 30 and July is 31.

To-may-to/po-tay-to.

Thank you! I can confirm that it works for me.
