A solid foundation with a few missing elements

Post by Matt Devo »

tested v1.2 beta build 692, and am very impressed with what I saw. Given my current work flow, it's not ready to replace my other tools yet, but could be with a few small tweaks:

General:
- allow toggling of subtitle status on/off. On by default is a pain, as all players I tested will show them even if the player default is to not show them.
- allow output file name to be set, rather than title<xx>.mkv
- show more info about each stream where possible

DVD:
- support for LPCM and MPEG audio streams

Bluray/HD-DVD:
- allow extraction of hi-res audio streams, not just the lossy cores
- allow recompression of hi-res audio stream using external tool (eac3to?)
- keep chapter info!

overall I'm very impressed though

Thanks for the feedback. Some of the items are on our list while some other are somewhat hard to do.
- Blu-ray chapters are supported as of version 1.3
- There are plans to add support for LPCM audio and optionally pack it into FLAC container
- MKV file format is really not suited for HD audio formats. Generally remuxing a track is an easy task but we still don't know how to do it correctly
- On a side not MakeMKV GUI will be released under open-source license very soon

As for subtitles, are you talking about GUI or about track flag inside MKV?
