Transformers 2 Revenge of the fallen

Post by mcmusic »

All

I have a BD original of this and ran it through makeMKV today.

It appeared to rip just fine, no errors at all and created the target MKV file.

But nothing at all will play this back. VLC,ffd, popcorn hour etc. VLC gives me black screen with audio. Popcorn hour refuses to play.

I have ripped many BD's with makemkv with no issue, now I see this one and Whiteout causing the same no playback issue.

Any one else have issues with either of these two or is there another problem somewhere?

My MakeMKV rip of whiteout plays fine in W7MC launched by Media Browser.

It's a VC-1 encode; some people have issues with these. My system plays VC-1 (progressive scan versions, at least) fine but it sucks the PCU heavily. So I added the MPC-HC codec and set it to be the standard codec for VC-1 content using the FilterTweaker. MPC-HC codec gives DXVA for VC-1 content.

The only program I've found that has no problem playing any HD MKV files is Boxee. This played Transformers 2 fine for me.

The "nightly" VLC build plays VC-1 fine.

Thanks all.

It may be region differences (I am UK) but both titles are AVC encodes according to mediainfo.

A little further digging and it seems that some players including my popcorn is struggling with this decode.

So the good news is it has nothing at all to do with makemkv....

Hate to admit it, but Windows media player with CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) is more stable then VLC for bluray mkvs.

As for a more "extreme" player, http://xbmc.org also will play VC-1 (interlaced or progressive) just fine. But It's really a full on media/content organizer with a player built in.

mplayer certainly plays the US BD of Transformers 2 (from makemkv) w/o any problems.
