I've been ripping Appendices 7 from the first Hobbit movie (Blu Ray). When I get a completed file it is longer than it should be. For instance, the segment "Journey Back To Middle-Earth" is 48:19, but the file length is 1:03:15 when I open it. Now, I cannot scan past the 48:19 mark with the search bar, but it will continue playing out to 1:03:15. I can use mkvmerge to remux it, at which time the file is the appropriate length, but when the player gets to the end of the file, it does not "stop". It just freezes in "play" mode. Also the remux results in the same file size (within a few megabytes), so I don't think it's just blank video. This makes me think there is still something wrong with the way the end of the file is written.
Here is the meta-info as given in MPCHC.

Re: Hobbit Appendices 7 has the wrong video lengths
More info. I looked at the "Play All" mpls and it appears that for the "parts" that are coming out with the longer playtime, they have 2 segments listed in the mpls. However, the second segment never shows up in the "play all" mpls. For example, the Play all mpls is
74,51,53,54,56,57,59,61,62,64,66,68,69,71,72
The mpls I mentioned before for "Journey Back To Middle-Earth", when played by itself is
51,52
I suspect segment 52 is the source of the issue. Can you manually override a segment mapping. Is there an issue with how makemkv might be detecting the mpls?

Look at the tags in the MKVMerge files and/or look at the file using MKVInfo.
See what you can see.

Re: Hobbit Appendices 7 has the wrong video lengths
Nothing useful. What I ended up having to do was to split them by duration with MKVMerge. That seems to have done the trick.
Re: Hobbit Appendices 7 has the wrong video lengths
I was just thinking that one of the audio/subtitle streams was longer than the video streams, but if you're done it doesn't matter.

Re: Hobbit Appendices 7 has the wrong video lengths
Maybe it was a one-off because I just did Appendices 9/10 from the second Hobbit set. They didn't require any post-processing. Maybe it was a mastering issue with the first set that they worked out the kinks on before the second.
