Fatal Error on one machine

#1 Post by bobchernow » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:00 pm

Help!
I have been using and loving makemkv for awhile now and it has always worked. I see now it can even be purchased and even though I think $50 may be high I am ready, except....

I was recently prompted to re-install and with version 1.5.0 or the latest 1.5.1 I can not get it to even load. I get the MakeMKV Beta popup, Fatal error occured, programm will now exit. This is on Windows XP SP3 on an Acer Aspire One in 1024*600 resolution. It has always loaded fine in the past and I even tried to load the 1.4.1 version with the date of computer set backwards and that loads fine and works.

It has to be something in the GUI cause it fails with or without a drive attached, and the makemkvcon app does rip the disc although I seem to be stuck with all the data for the title selected cause I cannot see how to specify to remove subtitles and other languages from the command line.

Oh, and it does load on my HP Laptop on Vista.

What I want to know is how I can fix this? I am reluctant to purchase if it will not work on this machine. Any special commands to debug it. I could not see any logs.

Bob

For starters, can I ask to uninstall MakeMKV complitely, then reinstall again and see if it changes anything. Also, do you have 32-bit or 64-bit windows? GUI is open-source so it is easy to debug. Please try to reinstall it first and if it fails I'll PM you specific instructions.

Re-installed and same error. I did notice something strange though. If I start it up around 3 times real fast, and then dismiss the error dialogs, after each dismissal the GUI pops up for a split second and usually one of the times it might actually stay up. If the time it stays up is NOT the last one, and I do not dismiss the last error dialog, I can actually use the program. I consider this a poor work-around although it seems to work. It also points to something GUI related and not functional.

OK, so tell me how to get logs of what the program thinks is causing the error.

32 bit windows xp sp3. I have actually also seen it once on my Vista SP1 32bit machine. If I start it up several times in a row and get 3 or 4 error popups I can usually get one that stays up. And when it does it works.

Please download a file form http://www.makemkv.com/download/makemkv151dbg.exe and place it into directory where MakeMKV is installed. Launch command promt, cd into MakeMKV directory and execute

Code: Select all

makemkv151dbg.exe debug "%TEMP%\mmgui.txt"
Once MakeMKV shows an error, press OK and execute from command line

Code: Select all

echo "%TEMP%\mmgui.txt"
Note the file name and send it to support@makemkv.com or reply to this post and attach file here.

I have excact same problem, On a fresh installed XP SP3 32bit, I get same error message on 0.5.1 beta.
It worked earlier - only used it a single time on this machine, it was installed this week.

I uninstalled and cleaned registry for makemkv leftovers, fresh install, same thing.

I exited anydvd before launching, just to be sure that wasn't it. Same thing.

Cheers,
Jacob

I think when you get it fixed you may be getting some well deserved funds transferred your way.
