First think you for a great application.
Second, I cannot complain about the price - what it does for me and my movies is well worth it.
I am about to buy but need a question answered. I need to run three pcs with makemkv , i use them at different times. Can I 'share' one license with all 3 machines?
license question
Re: license question
Just a question to the forum mod... since I can't speak for the developer...
Someone else posted the quoted text below in another message thread asking about pricing (that was then locked leaving the readers to believe the quoted text was indeed accurate)

Now it would seem this post too shouldn't be posted hear and needs to be locked... However this is a very valid question and one that other customers would also benefit from knowing the answer to.. So in short where SHOULD a post like this and in translation the other locked posts be posted?Although it's apparent that you folks are well-intentioned, you are ignoring the wishes of "mike-admin", who has made it clear (in a post to a thread here at his forum) that this forum is only for conversation regarding program development and not about pricing or marketing.

As you say, you can't speak for the mod, so there's really no point in posting that you think a thread should be locked ;>}Just a question to the forum mod... since I can't speak for the developer...Now it would seem this post too shouldn't be posted hear and needs to be locked...
I'm sure "mike-admin" will address the initial post of this thread...

Re: license question
You normally shouldn't ask any permission to do so, it's your fair use right to transfer a program from one computer to another and make backup copies, even if a "backup copy" is another installation.mcmusic wrote:I am about to buy but need a question answered. If you ask whether MakeMKV licensing code would prevent this, then the answer is no. MakeMKV doesn't have presently and will never have any kind of internet activation.

and my question remained unanswered but thats okay...
The entire reason for my post was to figure out what is and ISN'T an appropriate post in this forum... Since I didn't get a response I fear that the people complaining about certain threads being censored were not just cry babies.. It certainly seems some posts get locked and some post don't and the reason isn't going to be provided. It's not a big deal but I'll like be a read only member from now on since I don't like contributing to fourms that are censored on the whim of the person running it...
And YES it is their forum are they are entitled to behave in any way they see fit... no argument from me... just not something that I admire.
And this in no way changes how I feel about the hard work and great effort that has been put into MakeMKV my hats off to the developer! I have nothing but good words to say about em.. And again this doesn't mean I wouldn't continue to recommend this great program and buy it once I'm ready to do my ripping project. I simply don't like contributing to forums that censor threads on whims.

@DaveGee
You may have noticed that, as opposed to virtually all other computer/program/development forums with legitimate purposes, those responsible for and assisting with the MakeMKV forum, have yet to post its formal rules.
When they are posted, in the near future, I'm fairly certain you won't see anything that should be surprising to anyone who surfs such forums. Since they will be rules, they'll of course primarily be, "Thou shalt not" in nature. Perhaps the most obvious one will be, "This is a privately controlled/owned entity and as such, it is NOT a democracy.
This forum is intended for the discussion of the technical performance and continued development of MakeMKV and will not include discussion or opinions about pricing or marketing.
The rules will not be limited to legal versus illegal activities or behavior, as those definitions vary from country to country. Therefore, any discussion or question that includes any reference to other-than-legitimately purchased (pirated, rented, downloaded, bootlegged, etc.) DVDs or BluRay discs will be disallowed and either "locked" (No further discussion possible) or deleted.
SPAM, posting fake results, "flaming", using profanity, and discussing pornography, religion, or politics will be subject to deletion.
Continuing membership in this forum shall be at the sole discretion of the Administrator or any of his/her designees.
As opposed to the rather stringent approach of some similar forums, I don't believe the MakeMKV Forum will place a (rather childish) prohibition on mentioning the name of competing products (As is done at the DVDFab Forum and, I believe, the SlySoft Forum), nor will there initially be a formal "strikes" count (negative points for rules violations), such as exists at the Doom9 Forum.
Thusfar, this has been a nicely maintained membership and will hopefully continue to be such, so that the formal rules should be virtually transparent to the membership.
BTW - Although the question about multiple license use is, off-topic, I, for one, don't see it as being the same as (rude) using this forum to try to tell the author/developer/publisher/forum owner what he should charge for his product - and especially not trying to justify such a "judgment" on, "...because I already own AnyDVD (or DVDFab)".
Thank goodness MakeMKV is coming into its own as, not only the sole "one-click DVD/BluRay to MKV", plus streaming capabilities, plus AVCHD processing capability, but also now, serious competition for the all to long monopolistic AnyDVD (as well as the just arrived "Passkey" from the DVDFab folks). It will be interesting to see how the Slysoft folks react, now that they no longer have the playing field to themselves ;>}

Re: license question
Thanks for the insight... I've been a lurker far longer than a poster and its good to hear your thought on how things might shake out... Like I said... this is their forum and they can maintain it any way they see fit... I fully agree with the notion that privately run forms ESPECIALLY those who don't ask for forum subscription fees or forum maintenance donations are...... for lack of a more palatable word, 'dictatorships'. The people paying the hosting fees month in and month out can do anything they like and many of the forums I go to operate in such an environment. I will also get up and excuse myself from the table when I feel the behavior isn't something to my liking. Well I may have voiced my concerns prematurely clearly we need to wait and see once a forum doctrine/code of behavior/thou shall not list or whatever is created.
As for the PRODUCT... well that has no problem standing on its own merits. It's nothing short of amazing AND it's platform neutral... Talk about engineering an elegant application.. this one is right up their.. no question about it.

Re: license question
Thanks mike for the clarification.
I have just bought the product, which again is well worth it.
Whilst I agree with the majority of the thoughts on this thread, there is no getting away from the fact that this is a commercial product. As such there must be a way to discuss and question the buying process , its limitations or its rights. Either that or all aspects should be made explicitly clear on the buying pages.
I totally disagree with posts such as 'its too expensive', and i therefore agree with the mods approach to such posts. Its all relative and if thats the way you feel, don't buy it, but do not moan about it.

Re: license question
So I've purchased an MKV license, ~5 years ago, and recently had to rebuild a new computing environment. I could not transfuse the purchased version of MKV to my new computer.
Do I have to purchase a new license or can you help me with a license.
