New to MKV

Hey all,
This is my first look at MKV and I was hoping someone may get me pointed to a link that shows the general selections made when you select the tracks you want when making the mkv. I don't want all selected, just a good guideline choice is good enough for me.

Also, I have a MAC and a Blu Ray drive that I want to use to copy "Into the Storm". Once I read the movie onto my desktop (BDMV), I want to copy this to my Cruzer 64GB stick. When I go to drag and drop, my mac says the file is too big. What steps am I missing here? A link to the correct steps here would be much appreciated as well.

Format the flash drive as "ExFAT", and you can put files larger than 4GB on it. That will leave it writable by the Mac; the alternative, NTFS, can be READ by the Mac, but Apple locks out writing to NTFS by default, and makes you go searching for tools to enable it (it's actually built into OSX, but disabled).

"How to use MakeMKV"... If you click on the help menu, you will get a link to the online help pages here. But the best way to learn MakeMKV continues to be this ancient learning method called "Play". Try different settings. Check out the different menus, including the Context menu (Right-Click for Windows users, not sure what the Mac version is), which has things like "Unselect all", "Select all", "Toggle item", and "Select none" if you do it in the left hand window, after opening the disk.

And if size matters to you, you will want to go to handbrake.fr and download handbrake, which has hundreds of options to play with (and a bunch of "sane" presets) to make the files smaller, and/or compatible with other devices.

Do I need to format the 64gb drive for the pc as well? I tried it on the pc and once it was ready to write, it transferred all movie data that was around 400mb and less and not the full movie at 5.6GB. If so, then what is the extension that I need to pc format it at so it can take more than 4GB of writing?

If the Windows PC is running Vista or later, it should understand ExFAT... since it is a Microsoft invention. XP and earlier, there isn't a common format that supports greater than 4GB that OSX can write that Windows can read. And currently the only >4GB option Windows shares with Linux is NTFS.

A search on Google for "enable ntfs write on osx" comes up with some interesting options.
