DTS-MA to FLAC fails in 1.9.0 for some titles

Post by TheShoe »

Hi all -

I've converted many DTS-MA tracks to FLAC successfully except for the following so far:

Band of Brothers (all episodes)
Led Zeppelin Celebration Day

...

I'm sure I'll find more.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Here's the debug code I see:

DEBUG: Code 356 at `?a-K5{`fCno#?y[:121265522
DEBUG: Code 1 at IU0dy!-B_nD66*X/0E:213136654
DEBUG: Code 0 at IU0dy!-B_nD66*X/0E:29400669

This is using the OSX v1.9.0 version on Mavericks.

Send a test dump of both discs to makemkv support. /onlinehelp/testdump.html

Thanks for sending the dumps, and I do apologize for the long response time. This is a bug in MakeMKV, but the bug is a "user interface" bug. If you look at the detailed log file (as written by MakeMKV), you will actually see the reason for the error:

Code: Select all

DTS001: Using dtsdecoderdll.dll version 1.1.0.1@2009/02/11 from /Users/xxx/decoders/dtsdecoderdll.dll
DTS001: Launching /Applications/MakeMKV.app/Contents/MacOS/mmdtsdec
DTS001: MakeMKV DTS-HD decoder v1.9.0 darwin(x86-release)
DTS001: DLL: Channels=6 Bits=16 Rate=48000 Mask=f/60f
DTS001: DLL: Using DLL version 1.1.0.1@2009/02/11 from /Users/xxx/decoders/dtsdecoderdll.dll
DTS001: DLL: This stream can't be properly decoded by this DLL, please use dtsdecoderdll v1.1.0.5 or later.
DTS001: DEBUG: code=00000000 src=;OR4-Bg5pL_0Jvo|:121263452
DTS001: Error: Failed to decode
The text at /dtshd/ states that any version of dtsdecoderdll works fine. This turned out not to be the case, as for certain 16-bit DTS-HD streams a recent version of the decoding DLL is required. All you need it to get a version of dtsdecoderdll.dll that is less than 5 years old :) . Specifically, version 1.0.0.8 is popular and easy to acquire.

The next version of MakeMKV will produce clear error message. Once again, sorry for the long response time.

Mike, when you update the dtshd page, you probably should remove references to Arcsoft TMT, since it is no longer available.

given I've been using a pretty old version, is it worth re-converting the DTSMA tracks to FLAC again?

have no idea the change-log from 1.1.0.1 to 1.1.0.8, but clearly there have been changes!

It's either lossless or it isn't, so no need to re-convert the tracks that were already successfully converted.
