Kummeli V - subtitle problems

#1 Post by fresselsne » Sun Dec 07, 2014 7:45 pm

I've a problem with a BD disc. It seems that MakeMKV isn't able to detect subtitles in this disc. Check the screenshot of comparing the same disc with latest MakeMKV (1.9.0) and "Clown_BD BD Copier".

Any ideas what's the problem?

There is more than just the subtitles different between the two displays... File size and chapter count are also different.

Highly recommend you follow the instructions in the FAQ linked in my signature and send the relevant files to support@makemkv.com so that Mike can review them.

There's one less chapter because the BD has a chapter to mark the end, which MakeMKV removes.

Educate me here, I've opened Supernatural S1D1 with Clown BD, all the subtitles are listed in the main mpls listing and the SubPath only contains a few "interactive graphics" that TSMuxer can't rip. I can't find any instructions for the program but I have found mention that things that appear in the main listing are removed from the Subpath.

I don't know this program, maybe you know what's happening better than I do, but to me it looks as though the subtitles are listed in subpath for the reason that they're not actually referenced anywhere else, which would mean MakeMKV and ClownBD are telling you pretty much the same thing...

???

One thing I find interesting though is that ClownBD seems to have merged the Region A + B title stats.

I assume T_SUBTITLE means "Text Subtitles", every BD I've ripped has had PGS subtitles, I'm not sure MakeMKV can rip Text. Is this an actual commercial disc?

According to wikipedia:
DVD and Blu-ray only differ in using run-length encoded graphics instead of text
but it also has:
AUXDATA directory: contains Sound data files and Font files. sound.bdmv file: stores data relating to one or more sounds associated with HDMV Interactive Graphic streams applications. This file may or may not exist under the AUXDATA directory. If it exists, there shall be only one sound.bdmv file.
aaaaa.otf file: stores the font information associated with Text subtitle applications. The names of these files are in the form “aaaaa.otf”, where “aaaaa” is a 5-digit number corresponding to the Font
Hmmmm.

This disc uses TEXT subtitles. MakeMKV can't handle them at the moment, as we have never seen a disc that uses them. If you are willing to help, please submit certain information from this disc. To start, please submit a test dump for the main title (the one that misses subtitles) per instructions at /onlinehelp/testdump.html . Also please make a decrypted full disc backup of this disc as additional files may be required. Thank you.

Some info about the disc:

It's totally legit B region commercial disc, it's this: http://www.discshop.fi/elokuvat/bluray/ ... ray/P99279

It lists these subtitles in the back cover:
  • Swedish
  • English
  • Finnish (hard of hearing)
also it seems that the disc has "forced Finnish" subtitle track, the movie has few scenes where English is spoken and forced Finnish subtitles are shown. That explains the 2 Finnish "6144 T_SUBTITLE"s in the Clown_BD program.

I've already earlier ripped the disc to ISO file with IsoBuster (AnyDVD HD enabled). The log file of MakeMKV probably says that AnyDVD is enabled, I get this warning in the GUI too, but it's really not enabled while running MakeMKV.

I tried the BD ISO with my Mede8er media player and it shows the BD menus just fine, no problems there. But when playing the movie and selecting subtitles (this works fine with any other BD ISO) it shows the subtitles for some short time and then Mede8er just crashes totally and reboots automatically (I haven't been able to crash the player like this with any other BD/DVD ISO's, mkv's, whatever). It seems that Mede8er doesn't fully support BD "TEXT" subtitles.. or there's a bug that causes the crash. (This was the reason I started to make mkv's from the disc.. I only make mkv's of BD's with "newer" menus that Mede8er doesn't support)

Sent the link to the test dump file to support email. When you have downloaded it, could you please notify so I can delete it. Thanks.
