Best Internal Blu Ray Player For Ripping

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which internal Blu Ray player will rip Blu Rays and DVD's the quickest.

I have a powerful i7 Windows 8.1 64 bit machine.

I won't say it's the fastest, but I have two of these, plus two more earlier generations:

LG WH16NS40 Super Multi Blue Internal SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter

Under $60 at Amazon and a lot of other places. I've seen up to 16x DVD rip speeds (usually 6-8x for shorter disks), and 10x+ on BD rips.

And the speed of your machine really doesn't make a big difference - the really high speeds were seen on a 2-core Celeron machine.... with a high speed net connection to a fast file server.

CPU MIGHT make a difference when extreme audio encoding is used. My encodes currently get stuck at 0.3x because of the FLAC settings I use. It would be quicker if I just straight ripped them one at a time first then re-encoded the audio later two or three at a time, but that would get fiddly and I don't really have enough free space on my HDDs at the moment to pull it off.

For a straight copy, the optical drive is the only bottleneck most people should encounter.

Hi, thanks for your replies.

The LG WH16NS40 isn't readily available in the UK so I got an LG BH16NS40 delivered today via Amazon.

I have a fast i7 PC (built this year), saving to local SSD.

New LG Drive:
Blu Ray Rip (16.8GB) took 18:07
DVD Rip (3 files, total size 5.86GB) took 16:36

Old Drive
Blu Ray Rip (16.8GB) took 24:17
DVD Rip (3 files, total size 5.86GB) took 11:33

So the new drive is slightly quicker for Blu Ray but significantly slower for DVD.

I hope this info. helps other users.

I only have room for one internal optical drive so I'm going to stick with my old drive.
