Failed to open disc on a BD-R from Japan

#1 Post by JKD_Shooto » Sat Sep 20, 2014 12:59 am

Hi guys,

New to forum. Wanted to find out if I am able to rip a BD-R? Tried ripping a BD-R with 3 TV shows on it. The shows are from Japan and the disc is from Japan. Tried MAKEMKV and it said:

MakeMKV v1.8.13 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Failed to open disc
Using direct disc access mode

Using this drive:

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: MATSHITA
Product: BD-MLT UJ240AF
Revision: 1.01
Serial number:

Disc Information
Label: DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER
Timestamp: 2014-05-13 23:59:37
Data capacity: 22.55 Gb
Disc type: BD-R
Number of layers: 1
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer

So, I tried another method which was to make an ISO image. I was able to copy that but when I tried to play it I onlly got the menu screen but couldn't play the movie.

Thoughts?

Thanks

The disc is most likely in the BDAV format rather than the BDMV.

My panasonic blu ray produces discs in the BDAV format and at the moment makemkv cannot read them.

I did read a while back that makemkv would eventually have this feature in, but even though it was over 2 years since it as mentioned, it still has not been put in.

Any word on when this feature will be implemented, as at the moment I have lots of blu rays with recorded programmes on that I would love to store on my NAS?

If it is a BD-R recorded "off the air", it is likely NOT encrypted, so there are other tools that may be able to read the files directly off of it.

My recordings which are in HD from freeview HD channels are encrypted on the blu ray.
So it would be nice if makemkv could work on these BDAV encrypted discs.
