I have just installed the version 1.8.1 on a xubuntu 13.04.
Everything goes fine except that, at the end of the process, makemkv fail to write the file (mutliple attempts with same result)

On the IO page of the Preferences menu, the Read buffer size is probably set to "Auto". Try setting it to a fixed size.

Larger buffers usually mean faster ripping, but sometimes you can have issues with large buffers. One of my machines is set to 256MB, because that machine is always low on free memory.

Thanks for the tip.... but it did not work. I tried setting the buffer size down in steps, finally ending up at 64.... each run took longer because of the decreasing buffer size, but all still ended in the Posix memory allocation error.

I watched system resource usage with each iteration, and, even with the largest buffers, no more than 33% of physical memory and 0.1% of swap were in use.

I solved my problems. I found various errors in /var/log/kern.log all related to the sata interface my optical drive is on. I swapped out the sata cable to that drive and the problems went away. So it was either the cable or a loose connection in my case.

Running MakeMKV while whatching kern.log, I, too, see I/O errors. I've got my BD drive attached via a SATA to USB(2) adapter at the moment, so I wonder if this may be the source of the problem.

When i have some time, I'll mount it internally and use the native SATA interface. We'll see......!

[SOLVED] Posix error - Cannot allocate memory

Thanks to engineermdr for the idea - I installed my Pioneer BD-RW BDR-209D Revision: 1.10 internally, directly on the SATA i/f .... I had been using it via a SATA-to-USB2 interface. It now works flawlessly (well, admittedly, a small sample of discs so far).

The "cannot allocate memory" seems to be a flyer since the root cause was I/O errors - revealed in kern.log.
