Does MakeMKV have any sort of Error Correction?
Does MakeMKV have any type of Error Correction? By this I mean if you try to rip a DVD that's a little scratched and it has problems trying to do so will it retry until it gets it correct?
Re: Does MakeMKV have any sort of Error Correction?
How do you error-correct something that is damaged so that the error correction built into it can't function?
The mechanism is to tell the hardware to try again. But, if the drive can't read the disk, there isn't much MakeMKV (or any other tool, for that matter) can do in the way of correction. BD and DVD players "correct" such missing data by IGNORING IT. That's why it can "play fine", but not be rippable.
I use furniture wax to clean such disks, and have multiple drives available, because each drive's laser alignment is slightly different. Sometimes, that's all it takes to get a good rip from a disk that another drive says is trashed.
