Blu-ray backups: What's the CERTIFICATE and MAKEMKV folders?

I've backed up my first Blu-ray with v1.8.11 for Windows and now have three folders on my hard drive. BDMV obviously has the contents of the movie inside. I'm wondering what the files inside the CERTIFICATE and MAKEMKV folders are for.

Another way of asking the same question: If I delete the CERTIFICATE and MAKEMKV folders, can I still use my Blu-ray back-up without issue? e.g. Can I still burn it using ImgBurn and play it using TMT/VLC/MPC-HC?

The MAKEMKV folder is quite peculiar to me. The fact that the folder is named MAKEMKV tells me that its presence is unique to back-ups made by this program, so what could the purpose of its files be?

Looking at a BD I have here, the CERTIFICATE folder is part of the expected structure of a BD. You may encounter programs that won't work if it isn't present. And, being a BACKUP of the disk, it would make sense that MakeMKV would copy it to the backup.

So, experiment - playing the files still works after removing it, then don't worry about it. If it stops.... put it back.

Why would you want to delete the CERTIFICATE folder? If you want only one file, just go with MKV.

Thanks, I didn't realize that the CERTIFICATE folder is part of a Blu-ray file structure. I Googled before I posted and it seemed like there is some inconsistency regarding which types of BDs have it and whether or not it is required for burning/playback. I thought that maybe it's the result of using the MakeMKV software and so the forum might know more about it. But since you say that it is indeed part of a normal BD, I will leave it alone.

That just leaves the MAKEMKV folder, which couldn't be part of the BD. After all, I wouldn't expect a BD to originally have a folder with that name.

I don't actually want to delete any folder. I was trying to ask my question in a way that I thought might make it easier for people to answer. I simply don't (didn't) understand what these two folders are for, and so along the lines of what Woodstock recommended, I thought that presenting a scenario where these folders are absent might make it easier to explain why they are needed or not needed.
