Being unable to test with "known good before" disks means we cannot eliminate a faulty drive. Is it JUST the STTNG season 5 disks causing the problem, or are other BD disks having problems as well?
MakeMKV can usually detect a change in AACS to a level that revokes the key in use. But that error should not be preceded by the first batch of read errors, and it will contain a link to communicate the new AACS information to Mike. And if a new version of AACS revokes the key in use, all BDs would stop being read by the drive and MakeMKV, until Mike changed the key.
Encryption beyond AACS would normally be BD+, which would be detected by MakeMKV, but again, it should not show up as unrecoverable read errors.

Well I guess the only option then I have is to try another drive. Will probably do that and come back to report here.
