MKV rip which track/Chapter?

I'm sure that this has been covered, but when I search with google or I search in the forum I can't find anything (which I'm sure is a terminology issue). When MakeMKV searches the blu ray disc, it will come back with several large tracks/chapters. Everyone says choose the larger track/chapter, but the track/chapters will be exactly the same. Which track/chapter do you choose? Sometimes one will be larger than the other which usually indicates an extended cut of the movie. I verify by firing up the disc and checking for extended versions. I've ripped DVD's for years, but I'm new to ripping blue rays and there are several things that I'm slowly getting used to, or that I don't understand. Any help here would be much appreciated...

Which to rip can vary widely between versions of the same title. There is a discussion on Ender's Game going here that has different file numbers for at least a half-dozen different retail and rental versions.

If someone else hasn't found the particular file that works for YOUR version, sometimes the only way to find it is to watch each one that matches the running length of the movie, and verify that the scenes are in order.

Sometimes the differences between multiple titles is the language of signs in the background. Trigun Badlands, for example, has two versions, one with Japanese in the title screens and credits, the other with English. 98% of the the movie is common between them.

So it sounds like (in some instances) that the disc is asking the blu ray player for the region and then playing the appropriate title. Interesting. I was hoping that the solution would be a little simpler, but I guess I'm going to have to do a little more work to figure out the correct title...

Not precisely - in the cases where the differences are languages, you would normally be shown the English version by default in the Americas, but you could select French or Spanish, and the appropriate changes would appear in the movie. I've seen messages here that say Disney "usually" has the tracks numbered consistently.

Both other cases, they try to frustrate those of us who want to put things on media servers by putting several (sometimes dozens!) of fake titles on the disk, with the scenes scrambled. Ender's Game is one such title. It has little affect on pirates, but is a pain for us.

Mike is trying to come up with ways to predict which set is correct, but they keep changing the rules....

Offtopic for this thread, but since the player knows which version to play it should be possible to trace through the menu programming and determine which chains are duds and which have entry points from the interface.
