makemkv crashes when reading dvd

Post by lionetm » Wed Feb 12, 2014 2:10 am

Hello there. I'm trying to rip my roger waters in the flesh dvd and the software crashes when opening disk. I check the log file and I got this:

Debug log started at Wed Feb 12 01:39:21 2014 , written by MakeMKV v1.8.8 win(x64-release)
Using 524544KB for read cache.
001005:0000 MakeMKV v1.8.8 win(x64-release) started
001004:0000 Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\Martin/MakeMKV_log.txt
003007:0000 Using direct disc access mode
003024:1000 Complex multiplex encountered - 28 cells and 18296 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
003028:0000 Title #1 was added (28 cell(s), 2:32:20)
003024:1000 Complex multiplex encountered - 2 cells and 2199 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
003028:0000 Title #2 was added (2 cell(s), 0:18:19)
003025:0000 Title #3 has length of 10 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped

Anybody can understand this?

Nothing looks amiss from the log. What do you mean by "crashes"? As in the GUI just disappears? What platform and version of makemkv are you using when you observe this?

Given the brand of the drive, I doubt that the RPC can't be bypassed - I have two of those drives, and they work just fine with MakeMKV, most of the time. And I do rip "out of region" disks, since neither of them has actually had a region selected.

There are exceptions, however. When I see this error, restarting MakeMKV usually fixes it. When it doesn't, cleaning/waxing the disk has proven to be a fix. Why? Because the minor scratches fool the drive into reporting an invalid region. That isn't supposed to happen, but...
