Track order on BD rips

Mike, this has been brought up before, but... Some BDs will have the tracks out of order when you open the disk. Example from a recent rip:

In this case, MPLS files 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16 are the 8 episodes, in order. But, that's not the order MakeMKV places them in when assigning title numbers.

It is not something that happens on a lot of titles (maybe 20-30%), but, when it happens on 1 disk of a set, it will happen on every disk in that set.

What information would you need from me to help track down why it is deciding to assign the title numbers out of order?

MakeMKV always processes MPLS in the order they are physically located on disc. This might or might not be the numerical order, and most of the time it turns to be the better order than the numerical one. Not sure what can be done.

Well, one suggestion that came up when someone last posted about this, was to give an option to sort the display by MPLS, rather than title... That would make it easier when applying non-default names and file names to the titles. Default to sorting 'as found', but click a button to sort by MPLS name. Could even make that button not available if the as-found order is the same as MPLS sorted ascending.

No, wait - some idiot would master a BD where the MPLS files would be numbered in DESCENDING order for correct playback...

I've noticed this too. The problem with having a toggle for the sort order is that don't know you need it until you've already ripped the disc and found the tracks out of order. I've thought that it might be useful to include the mpls number in the automated naming scheme in addition to the t##, which is currently provided.

If you're watching the progress window as it opens the disk, it is fairly obvious when things are out of order, as shown by the sample I posted. And, in the case of TV episode disks, I haven't come across any where the tracks are in order on one disk, but out of order on another.

What got me was the set I posted - they weren't in strictly backwards order, more random. Grrrr, I say.

Yes, of course, its easy to see when the disc order differs from the mpls order. You can also look at the "segment map" field of each the tracks in the selection window. However, knowing which if any corresponds to actual episode order is not possible without actually viewing them.
