Cannot run MakeMKV since version 1.8.5

Post by outbreak »

Hello!

Version 1.8.4 works fine without troubles.
But since 1.8.5 I get following error when I try to start the application:

Application failed to initialize

The same error appears when I use Version 1.8.6 or 1.8.7.

But no issues with 1.8.4.

My OS is MS Windows Vista Ultimate.

Does anybody know this error?

Thx in advance for your help!

Regards,

Are you certain that all parts of the old version are being removed when you install the new one? The last time I personally saw this error was when files were left over from a previous version.

First, find out where MakeMKV was installed. For me, it is installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV", but you can find out where it is on YOUR machine by right-clicking on the MakeMKV menu entry or desktop icon, and selecting "properties". It will be the "start in" directory.

Do an uninstall of MakeMKV. Then verify that there are no EXE or DLL files left in the MakeMKV program directory.

If it is empty, install the new version, and try running it.

If it is NOT empty, delete the EXE and DLL files. You will probably have to operate as an administrator to do this (Win8 users reading this, most definitely). Then do the install.

If MakeMKV was originally installed as an administrator, installing as a non-admin will not overwrite the old files reliably.

Hi Woodstock,

thank you verry much!

I uninstalled it, checked the Folder if it is empty and afterwards I installed the newest version. Now it works!
