My DVD's ripped with MKV all play just fine on my new TV KDL55W900A.
With my BluRay's they all look like they are playing, but there is no video or audio.
I can pause a movie (black screen) or skip chapters (black screen) or FF etc.
I assume it is a Sony problem (some have suggested DRM), but I just wondered if anyone has a work around. The Specs say that it supports MKV.
I'm in love with the PQ on this set (I've already returned 3 other brands this week (Vizio,LG,Samsung) for poor PQ, and poor DLNA support). The Samsung UN55f7100 played everything I sent to it, but the PQ was not great (only OK) and the darn user interface / remote was horrible, and it would lock up frequently forcing me to "reboot" the TV.
If I have to I'll use Handbrake and re-encode them all again, but I'm hoping to avoid that.
Any ideas, much much appreciated.

DVDs are mostly all MPEG2 and AC3. Blu ray is a whole different kettle of fish.
In MKV:
Xvid 1920x1080@30fps 1280x720@60fps
AVC / H.264 BP@L3, MP@L4.2, HP@L4.2 1920x1080@60fps
MPEG4 SP@L6, ASP@L5, ACEP@L4 1920x1080@30fps 1280x720@60fps
VP8 1920x1080@30fps 1280x720@60fps
DTS core / AC3 / AAC-LC / E-AC3 / HE-AAC v1 / HE-AAC v2 / MPEG1L1 / MPEG1L2 / Vorbis
SubRip *.srt
MicroDVD *.sub/*.txt
For one thing it can't play back VC-1.
You may have to extract the Core from DTS-HD streams, there's no TrueHD support at all so you'll need the 'core' from that.
It won't show PGS subtitles, you'll have to convert them to SRT or SUB/IDX
Oops, sorry:
The AVC profile is above 2D Blu Ray specs, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Of course it's possible you've run into a bug, keep trying and you'll figure it out.

Edit: No PCM in MatroskaI'm not sure how it would handle MakeMKV's way of writing 5.1 pcm, you'll have to figure that out yourself.

Re: Blu Ray Rips not playing on Sony W900a TV DVD Rips OK
Thanks, but Confused by your response???
Got the first part, DVD's have been around longer and are more common formats likely to be supported.
Not sure I understood the second part.
If the Blu Ray Rips work on WDLive, Various Blu Ray Players, and Samsung TV's then I assume there is something not fully supported on the Sony TV.
I think the next part of your post is saying that Blu Rays could be any one of many formats.
Other than transcoding them down to AVI / MP4 I don't have anything else to try.
I hate to loose any quality. Hopefully Sony has some ideas
