Avatar 3D backup triggering copy protection on BD player?

Post by goldenegg » Mon Dec 09, 2013 3:52 am

I'm new to MakeMVK and used it for the first time today to backup my copy of Avatar 3D. I am not trying to create a MKV, instead I'm dumping the full disk and burning to a BD-DL. When dumping the disk, I enabled decryption of video tracks.

After burning the resulting dump, it won't play in any BD player. It simply comes up with the message that the BD player requires an update. I'm guessing this means it triggered some type of copy protection on the disk.

There were no errors while dumping the disk. The same disk dumped with AnyDVD worked fine, but I'd like to avoid AnyDVD since my preferred system is my Mac. I simply want to avoid wasting more BD-DL disks in the future.

Anything I could have possibly done wrong? I'm using MakeMKV 1.8.6. Any help is greatly appreciated!

How did you burn it? I.e., did you burn it as a data BD or an "authored" BD?

I burned it as a UDF data disk, using Toast 11. Same way I've burned dumps in the past.

I just tried Life of Pi 3D and the same problem happened. I might try the Windows version to see if that makes any difference.

If it maters, I'm using a Pioneer BDR-XD04 Blu-Ray drive.
