Mkv locks up

Post by utron »

I am having a problem with MKV saving titles into directory. Everything fine for about 2 minutes, then remaining time starts going up and in resource meter memory useage jumps above 800,000k and program continues to run but does nothing. I can't even shut it down. I have converted over 200 dvds before and on occasion this would happen but now it happens all the time.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on computer with 4gm memory and 2 tb hdd.

Get no error codes.

Enable debugging (explained in link in signature) and post what you get in the log, please.

This report from debug log: 008:0020 Program reads data faster than it can write to disk, consider upgrading your hard drive if you see many of these messages.
Repeated numerous times.

That is not really an error message, just reporting that your system is slow in writing to disk. I get that on a heavily-loaded system from time to time, or when a disk I'm writing to has a problem.

There is HOPEFULLY something else in there, preceding the lock-up, that will give a clue as to what is going on. That's why posting the log is the best way to go. You can either post it here as an attachment, or email it to support@makemkv.com

Good news bad news. I have determined it is not Make MKV causing the problem. I have a 1tb Passport and had no problem using Make MKV on it. I then tried to transfer file to 2tb internal and had same lock up problem. It appears 2tb locks up when receiving large files.
Thanks for the help and the wonderful product.

That indicated you probably have a corrupted drive, either a problem with the format or physical sector issues, that Windows can't deal with. You should schedule a scan of the drive, with "attempt to recover bad sectors" checked, or at least do a web search for "smartctl for windows", for a utility that will let you query the SMART monitoring on the hard drive.
