Samsung SE-506BB/TSBD rip speed 2.2x speed (9.4 M/s)

I have just purchased a Mac Book Pro Retina 15" and a Samsung SE-506BB/TSBB external BluRay drive.

This is a USB 2.0 drive (seems all Samsung do at the moment).

I am getting 2.2x (9.4 M/s) rip speed on a commercial bluRay disc.

Is this normal? The drive is rated at 6x speed, and USB 2.0 should be capable of 27 M/s.

Would a USB 3.0 drive see better rip performance? Can someone using a MacBook Pro and external drive share their make and mode and if it is USB 2.0 or 3.0 and their rip speed.

Thank you. I think that is correct. Can someone suggest a external BluRay drive which does not have, or could have the riplock removed?
