Monsters University DVD

Post by jasdjensen » Mon Nov 04, 2013 6:49 pm

Having some trouble with Monsters University DVD.

It comes up with several titles (about 37 titles on Angle 1).

I've tried playing through a few of them and they all seem to skip around (not the correct order of the segments).

I'm a little new at this so I don't know what other information to provide.

Has anyone successfully ripped Monster's University that can provide some help?

Thanks.

I noticed the same thing. I let MakeMKV rip all 37 titles that it found and then went through all of them to see if I could determine the correct title. I discovered a shortcut by fast forwarding to the ending credits of each title and checking the after-credit scenes. So far, only one title seemed to have the correct after-credit scene, so I figured that is most likely the correct title.

Title 28 is the one that I think is the correct one, although I have not watched it through to verify it yet.

This comes up all the time, but I'll be happy to go over it again.

For Almost ALL Disney/Pixar movies released in the last 4years....

You must find the legit title number for the movie by actually going through the menu system, playing it, then checking the number of the title it's plays (once the movie actually starts). Most of the others are either fake titles or other language titles.

VLC can usually do this as can most hardware players

Just googling it yourself to find the title someone else used is NOT a solid idea. It will not work reliably as Disney changes the numbers between releases
(IE Brave's DVD in the combo pack has a different title number than the solo dvd release)

Tolken -

As per this dvd (Monsters University), VLC and my blu-ray player shows the title as 31 but when I make the mkv, the segments are out of order for title 31. I'm not sure how that is but the correct title is indeed 26 (thanks hannaman) when I manually checked it against the dvd in the player and checking the chapter by chapter. If hannaman did not list it here, I would have had to, I guess, record all titles and manually check each one. I would agree that in most cases, you should check the title in VLC or your player but this is one instance where the two do not match.

One thing to watch for is the difference between "title number" and mt2s file name. Sometimes, MakeMKV numbers them backwards, so that titles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are mt2s files 12, 11, 10, 9, 8... This is especially "phun" when dealing with episodes of a show on BD; if you miss it, you'll name the files out of playback order.

You can view the file number by highlighting the title in the left directory tree window, and reading the file's property information in the lower right information window.

I see that now. Somewhat new still but I do see that the Source Title ID is 31 but the filename is title26. That is where I was making my mistake. So that clears everything up. Thanks.

Yeh they can be different by the looks of things.

Mine is Title 19 although the number of chapters and time don't match up.

But after searching all the Titles in MKV none of them were the same length or had the same number of chapters.

Thanks for that StixUK. For me, VLC segfaults on this DVD so I could not use that to get the track mumber. I tried mplayer but that gave me either title3 or title4 depending on how far I got through the movie (dvd://3 or dvd://4). These did not match up to any that were detected by makemkv. I tried all several that appeared to be the longest or have most chapters but the first or last scene was always wrong. Tried 26, 28 and 31. Then tried to find the track StixUK was talking about. This worked fine. For anyone needing the info about this, here is what makemkv reports:

Title information
Source title ID: 19
Angle: 1
Duration: 1:38:22
Chapters count: 32
Size: 5.5 GB
Segment count: 84
Segment map: 1-2,3,6-8,(9,12,15),18,19,22,23,26,(27,30),33,34,37,38,41,42,45,46,49,(50,53),56-57,58,61-70,71,74-75,76,79-82,83,86-89,(90,93),96-98,99,102-106,107,110,111,114-119,120,123,124,127-128,129,130,133,134,137,(138,141),144,145,148,149,152-156,157,160-161,162,165-167,168,171-172,173,176,177,180-186,187,190-194,195,198-203,204,207-211,212,215-219,220,223,224,227,228,231,232,235,...
File name: title21.mkv

Hope this helps.
